Whatever key you are sight-reading in, expect to recognise the common chords in both melody and bass together. I.e. tonic, dominant and subdominant triads, sometimes incomplete, sometimes decorated with passing notes and neighbouring notes etc.
For our purposes, I asked students at Level I to create a melody over the given chord sequence. You should do the same, but in G major please. It should take you less than 30 minutes. The notes you use should match the chord progression. Do not try to make it complicated- this is for sight-reading!
