Highway to Jerusalem

On the highway to Jerusalem the crowds have lined the way
Waving palms and singing loud hosannas in a grand display
O what great excitement fills the hearts of one and all today
Jesus the King passes by!

Coming now without an army or a stately company
Meek and lowly, with no ostentation, on a colt is He, 
King of kings and Lord of lords we wonder now how it can be

Mighty Song of David and the promised King of Israel!
He must take the throne and reign forever as the prophets tell

They have seen His deeds of love and kindness - He is now their choice
He will be the One to lead them on, and so their hearts rejoice

He can break the iron hold of Roman rule and tyranny

Soon their hearts will all be swayed against the King that now they cheer
Crucify Him! Crucify Him! are the awful words we'll hear
But now there's only one cry!
